Chitwan National Park
One horned rhino
On our safari drive in Chitwan National Park yesterday we were fortunate to see five rhinos. There were three adult males in different locations, of which this is one. We got within about ten metres of him (in a jeep). We also saw a female and calf. The one horned rhino is a Nepalese conservation success story, with numbers increasing. Armed guards patrol the park to deter poachers, although sadly a few do get through .

In Nepal at least, yes 🙂 I don’t know if there are still concerns about it elsewhere – I must do more research!

Yes, very much so. We saw army patrols in the national parks and the punishments for poaching are severe.

We visited a safari park in Bali and watched a couple of shows and they included a poaching segment

It must have been, but that scare may have influenced a determination to stand against such abuses?

Not on this trip, no. We’ve been to India three times and loved it so we may well go back in the future, but Nepal is all new to us 😀
