We’re going on a bear hunt. We’re going to catch a big one. What a beautiful day! We’re not scared.
Michael Rosen
OK this isn’t actually a bear hunt, but as soon as I saw Anne’s challenge this week I thought of that book and having to ‘go through it’.
A river! A deep cold river. We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it. Oh no! We’ve got to go through it!
No, we’re going on a scavenger hunt not through a river but through our archives. To be honest that’s what I usually do for many challenges and as Anne says, it’s a great excuse for a rummage that will trigger lots of memories. This time we have a list of subjects from her to hunt for among our photos. I’ve chosen a number of them, so let’s see what I can find …
I’ll start with my feature photo, taken at the British Wildlife Centre in Surrey. This beautiful Scottish Wildcat definitely meets Anne’s ‘Something with green eyes’ subject! And it allows me to cheat a bit. She stipulated no more than ten images but while I do have ten below, with this feature shot I have eleven! Sorry Anne 😏
Apart from the cat, all my other choices were taken, unsurprisingly I’m sure, on my travels.

‘Something with wavy lines’
Sea turtle, Miniloc Island Resort, Palawan, Philippines

‘Something with a wheel’
Wagons at Old Trail Town, Cody, Wyoming
[I hope more than one wheel is permitted?]

‘Something with a cool shadow’
Looking down at the shadow of our plane in Botswana

‘Something with a smooth texture’
In the Plaza Botero, Medellin, Colombia
‘Some cool jewellery’
Pre-Hispanic gold necklace in the Ayala Museum, Manila

‘Something circular’
The Piedra del Sol (sometimes mistakenly called the Aztec Calendar) in the Museum of Anthropology, Mexico City

‘Something with a bumpy texture’
Bird perched on the head of a moai at Ahu Tahai, Rapa Nui (Easter Island)

‘Something with a soft texture’
Fabric for sale in the morning market, Luang Prabang, Laos

‘Something with water in it’
Water collected in a plant at the Aguila de Osa eco-lodge, Costa Rica

‘Something glass’
Stained glass dome of the Cultural Center in Chicago

They are all perfect for the challenge, Sarah – but the turtle, oh, the turtle…is gorgeous.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Ann-Christine 😊 It seems everyone loves that turtle!
Annie Berger
This was one of my favorites of your challenges, Sarah! Really liked the turtle as others have said, the fabrics in Luang Prabang, the Palawan shot, etc!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Annie, good to hear you enjoyed the post 😃
Ritva Sillanmäki Photography
I can easily agree with many of the commenters about the favorite ones, but all the images are great, but yes the turtle that you showed us first is a winner.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Ritva 🙂 It seems first prize goes to the turtle!
Vicki
Wonderful selection.
I especially like the first 2 images. That’s a whole lot of wheels for sure.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Vicki 🙂 Yes, many wheels – I did even wonder if Anne would prefer just one since her prompt was ‘Something with a wheel’!
Joanne
Wow! Fantastic pictures and a great selection in response to Anne’s challenge. It’s difficult to pick a favorite, but it’s hard to argue with that Chicago dome. The western wagons and the wavy lines are both very close behind.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you very much Joanne 😊 I enjoyed putting this together! The three photos you mention seem to be generally the three favourites from this set.
wetanddustyroads
I can only imagine how excited you must have been to choose pictures for this challenge! And each one fits the description so perfectly. Your ‘something with water in it’ is, as expected from you, not at all the normal image (whatever the term ‘normal’ may mean) – I love it!
Sarah Wilkie
I did have great fun with it, though some photos took more hunting for than others! Thank you Corna 🙂
Sofia Alves
Wow, Sarah! All treasures 🙂
The turtle, the fabrics, the stained glass, the plant… amazing shots!
Sarah Wilkie
Aw Sofia, thank you so much 😊 I’m really happy you liked them!
equinoxio21
Something impressive?
Your post. (And other posts of course)
I simply loved the turtle… Perfect. (You must have gasped when you saw it.)
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks so much 😊 As for the turtle, I’d just been snorkelling with him but hadn’t thought to take my waterproof camera away with me. I had to wait until I got out before I could capture him and I was so pleased he hung around long enough for me to get a few shots!
equinoxio21
So you were quite close. A great sensation.
carabeinsplash
Wow! That photo of the turtle is fantastic! Love it!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you very much 😊 I think he must be the winner this week!
Wind Kisses
Of course I loved them all, but I thought the water in the succulent was a great capture.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you – I was pleased to have spotted that and took quite a few photos 😀
Marie
Great images. Love the line of wagons in Cody. And the window. And all of them.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you very much Marie 🙂 Those two are definitely in the top three this week, along with the turtle!
JohnRH
Wow! GREAT selections. Outstanding.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you very much John 😊

beautiful picture 👍
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you 🙂 Which one, I wonder? The cat perhaps?
grandmisadventures
Great collection of pictures- the wagons in Cody and that incredible stained glass windows are probably my favorites
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Meg 🙂 Those wagons are proving popular even though that’s quite an old photo. I’m glad I thought of it to include here!
margaret21
All great choices of course – but I particularly like the sea turtle shot.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Margaret 🙂 As I mentioned to Brian, he seems to be the favourite this week!

👍
bushboy
The turtle and stained glass dome are my favourites Sarah among a wonderful lot of selections 😀
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you very much Brian 😊 The turtle seems to be the general winner in this batch!
bushboy
Everyone loves turtles
the eternal traveller
I particularly the one with water in it – you were clever to spot the centre of the plant filled with water.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you 🙂 We had some downtime at our lodge and I was using it to hunt for potential macros etc. among all the greenery there.
norasphotos4u
Amazing selection – love the last one!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Nora – that ceiling dome was amazing 😀
Egídio
Sarah, as always, your photos are captivatingly beautiful. The whole gallery is gorgeous, but I loved the wavy and wheel photos especially. Classic shots!
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks so much Egidio 😊 That wheel photo is an old one from 2006 but it’s come out quite well after a bit of editing with more modern software!
Egídio
Excellent result indeed. Modern software has opened the doors for us in good ways.
Jane Lurie
A fine set, Sarah. Love your plane shadow with the patterns of trees. I just heard an interesting interview with the creators of the Bear Hunt children’s book. They struck gold turning a chant into a book. 🙂
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Jane 🙂 I have great memories of reading that book aloud to groups of children many times when I was a librarian. And I once took a group of toddlers on a bear hunt around our large central library, acting out all the different environments and culminating in ‘finding’ the bear behind some shelves in the children’s section – our very big library teddy!
Jane Lurie
Oh how fun! I bet they loved it. And I, as a kindergarten teacher, bear hunting our way through circle time. 🙂
Tish Farrell
A very fabulous gallery, Sarah. I love your cat too 🙂
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you very much Tish 😊 He’s beautiful, isn’t he?!
Anne Sandler
What a wonderful response with images found from your travels. I’ll forgive you for the eleventh photo. It was worth it.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Anne, it was such a fun challenge! I did have 13 photos at one point so did quite well to cut down to 11 😀
Amy
Wow… What a precious, special collection!
Sarah Wilkie
Aw, thank you Amy 😊
Tina Schell
All perfect for the challenge Sarah, and all wonderful captures. Forced to choose I’d go with the swimming turtle (love that one!) and the wheels.
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks so much Tina 😊 That turtle is an early favourite it seems, and I’m glad you like the wagon wheels shot – that’s an old one from 2006!
Anonymous
I love that green-eyed cat you led off with, Sarah, but my favorite is the wagon wheels!
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you 🙂 Not sure who you are but I appreciate the feedback!
Wandering Dawgs
Wonderful finds for the challenge! My favorite is the wavy lines with the turtle.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you very much Beth 😊 See my reply to Alison below about the sea turtle shot!
Alison
What a great challenge and you’ve showcased some great ones. I love the sea turtle
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Alison 🙂 I was glad that turtle came out as I’d just been snorkelling with him but hadn’t thought to take my waterproof camera with me so had to wait until I got out before I could capture him!
