Greetings from Sri Lanka
Unity in Diversity
Sakkotai Cape, located near the town of Point Pedro in the Jaffna District, is recognised as the northernmost point of Sri Lanka. The shoreline here is rocky, with colourful fishing boats pulled up on the beaches. A short jetty marks the exact spot with a sign bearing the national flag and what seemed to me to be its unofficial motto:
Unity in Diversity is the Strength of Sri Lanka.
When we visited a small group of young boys tried to sell us seashells, with no success!

That’s not a bad (unofficial) motto for a country to have!
Sarah Wilkie
I agree 🙂

love this little piece of Sri Lanka with the waves and the flag and the boys selling shells
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you very much Meg 😊

What an excellent motto – we could all do better at living with this in mind. I guess you have to give those boys credit for trying.
Sarah Wilkie
I bet those boys do get the occasional sale! Some of the shells were lovely. But even if we wanted one I’m not sure we’d be allowed to take it home 😀
the eternal traveller
We certainly wouldn’t. The rules are very strict here.

Fun to read about a city in Sri Lanka I hadn’t heard about before, Sarah. Looking forward to seeing more of your takes on the island nation.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Annie 😀 I’ll try to share more as we go but wifi is iffy in some hotels so it may be as much as I’d like to.

“Unity in Diversity” is so perfectly worded. It lets us be individuals, while standing together for each other. Love it. 💞
Sarah Wilkie
Yes, I thought you would like this and for just that reason – as I do too!
Marie
Have a great time – one of our favourite trips…..

I thought so!

It’s a great aspiration though I’m not sure they’ve always stuck to it! Selling seashells on the seashore is … optimistic.
Sarah Wilkie
It’s very true that they haven’t but there seems to be a genuine desire to do so now.

Good to hear.

Thanks for th postcard. Good to have a view that’s not rain-sodden!
Sarah Wilkie
As it happens we did get rain a couple of days ago but none up here in the north – 30 degrees and sunny all the way!

Just keep it quiet eh? 😉
