Happily we bask in this warm September sun, which illuminates all creatures
Henry David Thoreau
We have had plenty of warm September sun this year, but also some chillier days, reminding us that winter isnโt too far away. By the end of the month it was looking, and feeling, quite autumnal. We were home for much of the month but did make our usual anniversary visit to Paris near the start.
Before that there was a visit to the Saatchi Gallery where we saw a surprisingly good photography exhibition, HIP HOP โ Living a Dream. Surprising because I have no interest in hip hop as a musical genre, but I found the portraits on display, especially those of Gregory Bojorquez, very engaging.
After the Paris trip we still found plenty to do closer to home, as always. We met friends for dinner at a favourite Austrian restaurant before a fun evening of comedy in an Islington pub. We went to the cinema together just once, to see A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (a fun twist on a slightly predictable rom-com theme) and I also went on my own to see Downton Abbey: the Grand Finale. I met up with Virtual Tourist friends for dinner (the regular London crowd plus a couple visiting from Chicago). And we spent a lovely Saturday with my family celebrating my great nieceโs first birthday. That year has gone quickly!
As well as a couple of interesting U3A talks (including a fascinating one about the internment of British troops in Norway in WW1), I also joined the table tennis group. I used to play (poorly but competitively) for a local club but havenโt done so for decades. Thankfully this group isnโt competitive and takes things at a much more gentle pace!
Photography and blogging
I showed some photos from our Svalbard expedition cruise at my photography group. And I was thrilled to have a shot included in the London Independent Photographers magazine, FLiP. I was also happy that GPSmyCity added another twenty nine of my blog posts to their app for download! You can read all about this partnership here: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/a-new-way-to-interact-with-my-posts/.
Chris and I were also involved in a big event for the Plan Zheroes charity, Feeding the 500, which brought corporate teams together for a team building activity learning to cook some Asian dishes. The food was then distributed to local charities to provide meals for 500+ people in need. I was chief photographer for the day, among other duties!
Technical notes
The Paris and Borough Market shots were taken on my Panasonic Lumix point and shoot camera. The rest were taken on my phone. Most have been at least a little edited with Photoshop Elements and some more heavily edited with Nik Color Efex.
As always I am linking my selection to Ju-Lynโs and Brianโs Changing Seasons challenge. Use the arrows to navigate the slideshow if you want to see all the images.
My feature photo was taken in a park in Bercy, a suburb of Paris

Congratulations on your photo that appeared in the London Independent Photographers magazine – I really thought you had quite exceptional photos on this cruise. Your Paris photos are beautiful – of course Notre Dame is in a class of its own. Oh, and I like the autumn colours in your photo taken in Brentford.

Thank you very much ๐ Although that photo in the magazine was taken in Malta, not on the Arctic cruise

Trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone- gently!- Sarah. I could enjoy your monochromes on here but will have to come back for this gallery. Phones have a limited use at times xx
Sarah Wilkie
No worries Jo. I know these slideshows don’t always display so well on a phone but I haven’t found a better solution for when I want to show so many photos and in a specific order.

I’ll be back later xx

Beautiful pictures! I really love the picture from Notre Dame. We were.so disappointed that when we were in Paris, we were a few weeks early of it’s reopening.
Sarah Wilkie
I’d been dying to get back to Paris to see inside Notre Dame ever since it reopened! I can imagine how frustrated you were at just missing out, I hope you get another chance ๐

Interesting that you’ve had a warm September and ours has been relatively cool. Suddenly it’s October and spring has realised she was running late. It’s been much warmer this week. Your stained glass photo is gorgeous.
Sarah Wilkie
September is often a lovely month here, though the nights get chillier. October has started brightly too but we have a storm on the way for the weekend.

Great to have your photography recognised! From your gallery this month I especially liked your Borough Market shots. Veggies can be as beautiful as flowers.

Thank you Anabel ๐ I agree, vegetables can make very lovely and interesting photos, especially when they’re as good quality as these!
