A childhood favourite is the alphabet book. For the English speakers amongst us, the last few letters of the alphabet always presented the biggest challenges for those creating these books. X was always ‘for Xylophone’, Y ‘for Yacht’ or occasionally ‘for Yak’, and Z usually ‘for Zebra’. But most letters offer a wide range of options, among them H.

Red is a primary colour and a rather schizophrenic one. It represents passion, warmth, and sexuality, but it also stands for danger, violence, and aggression. Red can’t be ignored, it demands to be noticed. From red hair to the red carpet this is a colour sure to turn heads.

London has enjoyed one of the sunniest and hottest Junes I can remember. Although ‘enjoyed’ is stretching a point for anyone travelling on the Tube in thirty degree temperatures, as most of the lines aren’t (yet) air conditioned.

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen one? Maybe not, but there is one sort of ‘ghost’ we can all see: the ghost sign. I’m not a dedicated ghost sign hunter, but I do like to spot them and always take a photo when I do.

When was the last time you used some form of transport? Car, bike, bus, train, plane … Most of us can’t get by without at least one of these. And wherever you go in the world, while the choice of transport might vary, people are on the move.

What is better than seeing a beautiful landscape captured in a photograph? Often, seeing the same landscape twice. A still lake, or if we’re lucky a still river, will allow us to double up the scene and often double the beauty. But we aren’t restricted to water when we look for reflective surfaces to enhance our images or give them a different twist.

There’s a lot to be said for not knowing where you want to go, especially when travelling. Whether in a city or in the country, whether somewhere shaped by man or in wild places, there’s a particular sense of anticipation as you follow a path without knowing where it is taking you.

Whatever the weather, when travelling it would be a waste of a day to stay inside. And with the right clothing it’s always possible to get out and explore. I want to show how bad weather needn't throw you off course when travelling. How with the right attitude and a bit of flexibility, even a stormy day can be fun!

Not all pink is anaemic, it can often be ‘rich and glowing’. I’m not a fan of washed-out pastels in general, but pink doesn’t have to be washed out. Hot pinks pop, salmon pinks glow, even delicate pinks shimmer.

Once upon a time all photos were black and white. With the advent of colour photography we had a choice and many of us make that choice according to subject matter. Others meanwhile prefer to stick only to one or the other medium. But some subjects are naturally black and white.
