If you love travelling as much as I do, I’m sure there are times when you read a post about somewhere interesting, maybe somewhere you’re already planning to go, and you think, ‘That will be useful’. Maybe you even bookmark it, or copy and saved some of the useful information. And just maybe, you remember, when the time comes to visit that place, that you read and saved that interesting post … somewhere!
Now there’s any easier way to save and make use of those travel posts that inspire you. I’m pleased to announce that, like several of my blogging friends (Maggie and Nilla), I’ve been invited to contribute to an exciting app for travellers, GPSMyCity.
What is GPSmyCity?

This easy-to-use app provides travellers access to a large library of travel blogs from around the world. You can download all favourite posts to your phone to access offline, with no need for a data connection.
All the material on the app is free to read and free to download. But for a small charge you can upgrade your download. GPSmyCity will then link all the sights etc. mentioned in the article to an offline interactive map. You can use this to locate the sights when out and about, and to navigate between them if you want to create a personalised walking tour.
Currently the app has ten of my posts, and to mark the start of my involvement with GPSmyCity I’m able to offer three of them for a free upgrade any time in the next two weeks. That means you’ll be able to link them to a map without paying the usual fee!
To get this free upgrade, please click on the link below for the post(s) that interest you. Then follow the instructions to download the GPSMyCity app. You will then be taken to the page for that post. Click on ‘upgrade’ and the downloaded post will be automatically linked to an offline map and GPS navigator.
~ Rhyolite: a very different ghost town (Nevada, US)
~ Wanderings in Vigan (Philippines)
~ A walk south of Pigalle (Paris)
The real cleverness of GPSmyCity
This gives you a chance to try the app for free, and you can continue to do so if all you want to do is save and read posts offline, e.g. while travelling. But I think its real cleverness is the link to the maps and conversion from blog post to walking tour, in an instant! If you agree, you can pay a small fee for each post you want to do that with. OR you can buy a very reasonable (I think!) annual subscription and have unlimited access to the full library of travel blog posts and their related maps and walking tours.
My other posts currently available on the app are:
A laid-back Sunday in Randazzo (Sicily)
Exploring Ortigia, the ancient heart of Syracuse (Sicily)
A short stroll through Noto (Sicily)
Strolling through Taormina (Sicily)
A short walk in the City (of London)
Going to San Francisco: a walk in the Haight
Along and around the Rue Mouffetard (Paris)
Disclosure: If you do upgrade one of my downloaded travel articles (other than the three free ones during the two week offer window), I will receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you.

This is interesting, congrats on another venture Sarah. It seems easy for you but a bit complicated for me.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Teresa 😄 It’s not at all complicated as they sort everything needed for the app. But there’s a small amount of work for me as I have to add a sentence with a link to the app to each post they use.

Congrats, Sarah. I’ve been with GPSmyCity for several years now, and it’s a pretty cool app.
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you 🙂 They seem good people to deal with too. They just asked for another batch of my posts so I should be well represented there. Out of interest, do you ever make any money from it or is it just a cool way to share your posts?

Congratulations! I love this app and your beautiful pictures are sure to be a great addition 🙂
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you very much Meg 🙂

Another fun project you have embarked on! Where do you get all that energy! What a wonderful way to share with others your love & experience of travel.
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks Ju-Lyn 😀 I don’t need much extra energy for this as they’re linking to posts I’d already written. I just had to edit them to add some links and create this one promotional post to announce the partnership.

This is very cool, Sarah! That interactive map looks very useful!
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks Terri – I agree, the map element looks particularly useful!

This is a great app. I found out about it through Denzil from Discovering Belgium a few years ago and it’s been very handy when we travel. Congratulations on your contributions.
Sarah Wilkie
I’m glad to hear you’ve found the app useful, thank you 😀

I don’t think I’ve used this app before but will check it out. It sounds really useful!
Sarah Wilkie
I think it’s fairly new – I hadn’t come across it before. But they’re adding content all the time 🙂
Monkey's Tale
Congratulations Sarah! So far they’ve been good to us, they have 85 of our articles now. I’m sure they’ll ask for more of yours too. Maggie
Sarah Wilkie
Thank you Maggie 🙂 They’ve said that they’ll be checking my site for more posts that will be suitable and I can also propose some 🙂

Cool app. I Pin interesting posts and articles to a Board on Pinterest, but the app takes it so much further.
Sarah Wilkie
Thanks Suzanne – I’ve only tried one walk from the app myself so far but I think it will be very useful for future trips 🙂 And of course I’m very happy to have been invited to contribute!
